MacDonald Scott is Carranza’s senior immigration paralegal.  Mac is a Certified Immigration Consultant and member of the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants, the professional body that regulates immigration paralegals.  He has a Bachelor of Arts from York University, a diploma from the Humber College Paralegal Program, and a certificate from the Seneca College Immigration Practitioner Program in 2005.

 

Mac has been involved with immigration law in Canada and the United States since 1998 through both representing immigrants and advocating for policy and legislative change.  He worked for the National Lawyers Guild as their membership coordinator, and was elected as their Vice President of Legal Workers, and 'Legal Worker of the Year" in 2003.  Mac is on the

 

steering  committee of  the  Law Union of Ontario, is a

 

 

member of Common Front Legal Collective, and is active in the immigrant rights organization No One Is Illegal.

 

His other interests are his family, bad suits, science fiction and of course, progressive social change.


 

Simone Stothers is an Immigration Consultant licensed by the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto in Latin American Studies and Environmental Studies, and has graduated from Seneca College’s Immigration Practitioner Program.

 

Simone provides bilingual services, in English and Spanish, to Carranza’s immigration clients. After completing an internship at the Salvadoran Center for Appropriate Technology in El Salvador, she went on to work at the Center for Exchange and Solidarity in El Salvador. Here she worked as a translator and coordinator of international delegations visiting the country to build solidarity links with Salvadoran organizations and to educate about the socio-economic and political realities in the country.

 

 

 

 

Knowing it to be a force dedicated to social justice in the Toronto area, these experiences inspired her to join the Carranza team upon her return to Canada, and eventually work in the area of immigration law. Simone participates in activities of the Law Union of Ontario and the immigrant rights organization No One Is Illegal.

 

Her other interests are pottery, gardening, and music.
